Official summary, as published

This document is an administrative, programmatic, or contractor-produced record related to the Advanced Aerospace Weapon System Applications Program (AAWSAP), a Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA)-administered program active from 2008 to 2012. AAWSAP’s official scope of work identified 12 technical research areas relating to potential aerospace threats over a time horizon of more than 40 years. As part of the broader program record, the file documents how AAWSAP was scoped, organized, tasked, funded, executed, or described at a particular point in time.

This April 2010 Bigelow Aerospace Advanced Space Studies (BAASS) investigation report documents field deployments to a Utah property and surrounding communities during March and April 2010. The report states that BAASS personnel interviewed local residents, law enforcement officers, ranchers, business owners, and tribal community members about reported anomalous events; used handheld sensors to collect environmental measurements; planned plant-based biosensor experiments; and sought photographic, acoustic, and chemical evidence of purported anomalous phenomena. It also records extensive reported accounts involving “dog-like bipedal creatures,” orbs of light, “little people,” “prehistoric-looking” birds, among other phenomena, and states that BAASS intended to use interactive methods to attempt communication with the presumed source of reported anomalous activity.

People, programs and institutions from The Legacy Program research board whose names appear in this file, found by exact spelling against a hand-checked list. A match says only that the file names them, not what part they play. People and programs lists every file that names each one.

Our reading

CLOSE READ

BAASS's report on two 2010 task force trips to the Utah ranch area: interviews with more than 25 residents, including police officers, ranchers and Native American residents, about bipedal dog-like creatures, 'little people', orbs and other reports; seven game cameras; plant biosensor experiments; and plans to use games and puzzles to establish communication. The DNA lab found three hair samples canine and one raccoon, and BAASS's own reading points to ranch dogs.

Three separate measures, each with its reason. They are never added into a score.

E Evidence 2 of 3

More than 25 interviewed witnesses, tracks, game cameras and a laboratory DNA report

N Novelty 2 of 3

Judged from the file; no earlier publication checked

L Linkage 3 of 3

BAASS investigation report on the Utah ranch and its neighbors

Flags

  • The file explains itself. Words in the file that bear on what it shows (recorded, not a verdict):
    • This sequence is frequently found in domestic dogs (page 37)
    • The analysis of the DNA sequence of the hair embedded in the red stain identified the hair as originating from a raccoon. (page 38)
  • Redacted: parts of the official copy are blacked out.
